The Crown Hall (EL 4)

|

In an alcove at the far end of this stone hall stands a pedestal topped by a thin silver crown.

The danger of this room comes from a combination of two traps.

First, anyone entering this room through the south door must make a DC 11 Will save or be affected by an attraction to the silver crown. They will immediately want to possess it.

Unfortunately, the pedestal it sits on is also trapped. As soon as the crown is removed, a set of long blades snaps out of the pedestal and whirls at knee height, slashing at the legs of whoever stands immediately before it. These blades are poisoned from an internal reservoir of medium spider venom.

The final insult added to this potential injury is that the crown is not the useful magic item it appears to be. It is actually a dullard's crown (see box).

Attraction Trap: CR 2; psionic device; location trigger; automatic reset; power effect (attraction, 1st-level psion, DC 11 Will save negates); Search DC 26; Disable Device DC 26. Cost: 500 gp, 40 XP.

Poison Blade Trap: CR 3; mechanical; touch trigger; automatic reset; Atk +10 melee (2d4+2, blades); poison (medium spider venom, DC 14 Fort negates, 1d4 Str/1d4 Str); Search DC 24; Disable Device 24; Cost: 18,300 gp.
