In the morning, Ben found himself wandering the halls of Castle Ravenloft in a dream until he came upon the chapel, where he discovered a silver raven icon, a dead man in armor, and a book that was probably the tome Madam Eva had told them to look for. He looted the body and took the icon but was only able to memorize a small portion of the tome before he heard people moving about outside.
At breakfast, Strahd told the three men about a coven of witches that had been troubling his lands for some time. They were meeting that night at Lysaga Hill for some kind of dark ritual, and Strahd wanted the party to dispose of them. Ben needed no domination to accept this task.
Weanwhile, Jamie and the bard loaded up on protection from evil scrolls and headed back to the castle. She seemed dubious of Strahd's motivations against the witches. What if they weren't evil? Ben simply replied, "Witches!"
Grant detected the dominate auras around the three men and tried to dispel them but failed. The group decided to ask Madam Eva for advice while Ben waited impatiently at the crossroads. Madam Eva couldn't provide much information because the lead witch, Baba Zelenna, was her sister, and her kind have a code.
Before heading up the hill, Ben tried to dispel their dominate auras and managed to get the lesser dominate from the vampire spawn off of Justin. Then they went up the hill and found the coven mid-ritual. Ben slapped on a daylight spell and ordered the coven to disperse.
They didn't like this idea.
A massive demonic form appeared and began hurling green fire at everyone. It sucked.
Jamie tore through the witches like tissue paper. That didn't suck.
The demon was tough, but eventually went down. That was kind of anticlimactic.
All in all, it didn't feel like an EL 11 for a level 8 party.
And that's where we ended.
