Writing Retreat

|

Jamie and I went to the Spring writing retreat WorD put together at Keystone Park. We had a couple of cabins and hung out for a few days working and shooting various shit. Jamie worked on a few stories, and I started rewriting my changeling novel into a novella (I think).

On Saturday we also took a few hours off to play Savage Worlds. It was a pulp adventure featuring Buck Savage(!) and his friends against a bunch of Nazis trying to steal a fountain that makes you immortal and invulnerable to attack.

It was pretty awesome. Most memorable quote: "When you get to Hell, tell them Science sent you!" (TM Pete, playing Weird Scientist Doctor Gold.)

GenCon Schedule, Addendum

|

I forgot to mention yesterday that Jamie and I will be attending a workshop Thursday evening in which we will learn to make our own chain mail dice bags. Should be pretty sweet. Also, we signed up for some party games Wednesday night, before the con officially starts.

GenCon Schedule

|

We registered for our GenCon events on Sunday. Jamie and I are playing in a Mutants & Masterminds game Thursday afternoon, an intro adventure for Crafty Games's new Fantasy Craft (fantasy using their Spycraft 2nd Edition rules) on Friday morning, and the release tournament for White Wolf's new Hunter: the Vigil game on Friday evening. If one or both of us advance in the Hunter tournament, those slots will take up most of our Saturday. Otherwise, Saturday and Sunday are free for pickup games with generics.

Also, it's my birthday.

My Other Blog

|

Over at my other blog (you know it's different because it's blue), I put up the first part of a two-part article about designing campaigns using the traditional three-act structure of a play or film. It's part of a repurposing of that page.

Furries and Ghosts

|

Jamie and I went to Games Unlimited in Squirrel Hill last night. GU is this game store (mostly traditional board and card games) that I used to go to now and then about a decade ago. We went because Jamie discovered that there was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles RPG (Palladium put it out about 20 years ago) and GU had some supplements last time I was in there (last summer some time). We went, and they did have TMNT books. They also had piles of old White Wolf books (WoD 1.0).

I got Jamie Mutants of the Yucatan (TMNT), the TMNT Game Shield, and Isle of the Mighty for Changeling: The Dreaming. I got myself some mini dice, Midnight Express, and Guildbooks: Artificer, Masquers, and Haunters (all for Wraith: The Oblivion). (I realized after getting home that I already had Masquers. Oh, well.)

And they were all half off or more. The guy seemed to really want to move them. Not surprising, as I know he's had some of those books for 10 years or more.
