Origins

|

Jamie and I went out to Origins Game Fair in Columbus yesterday. This year, Origins offered a Fair Pass admission. For $3, on Saturday or Sunday, you could get into the exhibit hall and art show all day, do demos, shop, collect swag, whatever. It was pretty cool.

I picked up the GURPS WWII hardcover and the United States and Nazi Germany supplements for $10 total at the SJ Games booth, Legend of the Twins and Dragons of Autumn for $15 total at the Margaret Weis Productions booth, and a couple of art prints.

Jamie got (Origins Award-nominated) Fairy's Tale Deluxe from Green Ronin, the Red Dwarf RPG and its series sourcebook for $5 each, and a framed original art piece from Andy Hopp (really nice guy, even if his art is freakin' weird).

Finally, big thumbs up to the crew from Slugfest Games for the demo of Red Dragon Inn, an awesome card game about adventurers getting drunk in the tavern after returning from the dungeon. I picked up the first set, and Jamie preordered set 2, which is coming out at Gen Con.

We both had a great time, though we overstuffed ourselves at Buca di Beppo right before we left, so the drive home saw us feeling kind of bloaty. All in all, though, worth the trip.

Changeling Game

|

I started a Changeling: The Lost chronicle for Jamie and our friend Linda tonight. Jamie is playing an Elemental of light named Alice (I had to create a new Kith), a former Amish who thinks she's been gone centuries but has only been gone a few years. Linda is playing Sukhot, a gay Flowering Fairest from Thailand who was taken decades ago while he experienced only months in Arcadia.

After creating characters, we played a brief introduction. Alice and Sukhot escaped the Hedge by falling out of the 31st Street Bridge. They were rescued by Lucy Dreads and her motley on their fishing boat. Lucy took them to the Spring Court's commons, a night club in the Strip District, where they were given food, clothes, and a place to sleep.

Apparently, Spring gives way to Summer tomorrow night. We'll see what happens...

Great character creation session for my new Illuminati University game last night. Good food and some crazy laughs. Here are the characters the group came up with:

  • A Tinkerbell-style faerie skilled in the entire Food college

  • The son of two soap opera actors matriculating on an Action Hero scholarship. Kind of a young Jason Bourne with Gunslinger and trained in Jeet Kune Do

  • A Dead Broke, time-displaced TL11 space marine

  • A zealous open source software developer who can teleport, but only when smeared with jelly, and he arrives naked

  • A Very Wealthy genius (IQ 15) dilettante-turned-professional thief
